The very first Oktoberfest was held on October 12, 1810 to celebrate the wedding of King Ludwig I to Princess Therese of Sachsen-Hildberghausen. The marriage was celebrated annually and came to be known as Oktoberfest. Later, Oktoberfest was held in September because the weather was deemed better for the festival. It has also been cancelled a few times due to wars and a cholera outbreak.
Millions of people come to Germany every year to celebrate. Oktoberfest is also celebrated around the world by those of German descent (including yours truly) and lots of others who simply enjoy the beer drinking๐ป
